Naviera Austral keeps a regular service between Quellón (Chiloé) and Puerto Chacabuco which brings supplies to the small villages and hamlets in the islands, like Melinka, and isolated areas in the continent.
The so-called "Ruta Cordillera" connects Quellón - Melinka - Raúl Marín Balmaceda - Sto. Domingo - Melimoyo - Pto. Gala - Pto. Cisnes - Pto. Gaviota - Pto. Aguirre and Pto. Chacabuco. Depending the cargo needs, the trip lasts about 32 hours. There are two services a week, provided by the ferry Queulat.
There is also the "Ruta Cordillera Corta" or "Ruta Cisnes" with 3 additional weekly services on the Jacaf ferry that connects Quellón with Puerto Cisnes, with a stopover in Melinka. This trip lasts 12 hours.
From Puerto Cisnes it is 210 kilometres-drive on a completely paved road to Coyhaique.

The Queulat ferry has 292 pullman-type seats located in a spacious passenger room with large windows to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of its route. It offers satellite TV, air conditioning, bathrooms for men and women, a bathroom for the disabled, and two cabins with showers. Next to this room is the cafeteria, which offers a wide range of products.
There are seats on deck so that the passenger can enjoy the trip, comfortably observing the beauty of the landscape outside.
The Jacaf ferry has 250 pullman-type seats, located in a spacious passenger room with large windows to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of its route; It offers satellite TV, air conditioning, bathrooms for men and women, a bathroom for the disabled, and two cabins with showers. Next to this room is the cafeteria, which offers a wide range of products.
There are seats on the upper deck so that the passenger can enjoy the trip, comfortably observing the beauty of the landscape outside. There are two restrooms available to the public on this level.
